چکیده

The recrudescence and modification of radiation effects precipitated by the use of chemotherapeutic agents has been reported extensively in the literature. The recall of quiescent radiation effects such as dermatitis, enteritis, esophagitis, pneumonitis, and mucositis has been most commonly associated with dactinomycin (actinomytin D) and doxorubicin (Adriamycin, Adria Laboratories, Columbus, OH) therapy, although other chemotherapeutic agents have been implicated. Radiation recall supraglottitis has been reported previously in a 4i’-year-old adult with diffuse histiocytic lymphoma. We report the first case of radiation recall supraglottitis involving dactinomytin therapy in a child.

Supraglottitis due to group B streptococcus in an adult with IgG4 and C2 deficiency: a case report and review of the literature.

Acute supraglottitis is a medical emergency as it can rapidly lead to airway compromise. With routine pediatric immunization for Hemophilus influenzae serotype b, supraglottitis is now more prevalent in adults, with a shift in the causative organisms and a change in the natural history of this disease. Here, we present a case of supraglottitis due to group B streptococcus that occurred in an ad...

Optimization of Radiological Protection in Pediatric Patients Undergoing Common Conventional Radiological Procedures: Effectiveness of Increasing the Film to Focus Distance (FFD)

Background Increasing the x-ray film to focus distance (FFD), has been recommended as a practical dose optimization tool for patients undergoing conventional radiological procedures. In the previous study, we demonstrated a 32% reduction in absorbed dose is achievable due to increasing the FFD from 100 to 130 cm during pediatric chest radiography. The aim of this study was to examine whether in...

Abdominal Splenosis: An Unusual Cause of Bowel Obstruction in a 7-Year-Old Child

Splenosis is a rare condition defined as a heterotopic auto-transplantation of splenic tissue, typically after blunt abdominal trauma. It can occur anywhere in the abdominal cavity, or even the chest. Splenosis found in clinical practice is relatively rare because most patients are asymptomatic. We report a rare case of abdominal splenosis in a 7-year-old boy, 3 years after an abdominal blunt t...

Adult supraglottitis: a potential airway emergency that can present in primary care.
